The turn-of-the-century Cottage, on a sunny corner in downtown La Jolla, is light and airy inside, with booths and tables under a skylight; outside there's a welcoming white fence, trellis, and large brick patio. You can start the day with farm-fresh eggs most any style, granola and fresh fruit, oatmeal pancakes, Belgian waffles, or a vegetable frittata. The dinner menu features California bistro cuisine. The Cottage bakery makes the most wonderful desserts, pastries, and bread (with the exception of focaccia). There's no smoking inside or out.

Everything about this beachside bungalow is brimming with romance. A white picket fence, lots of colorful flowers, and a sea of pastel and floral umbrellas shading the brick-patio seating adorn the outside. Inside, pastel watercolors of the La Jolla shore accentuate the cheerful atmosphere. Hot coffee and waffles smothered with bananas and strawberries complete an enchanting La Jolla dining experience just too good to miss.

"They come to sit on the broad front patio at an umbrellaed table, basking in La Jolla's perpetually glorious weather, reading the paper, sipping coffee, eating good food, and generally relishing the good life."
- Roadfoods
It's the "perfect patio for pancakes" purr partisans of this "lovely" La Jolla Californian where "hordes" of "casual" locals also come to savor "excellent omelets" and "good cinnamon rolls," and later in the day, an "imaginative," if "limited," lunch menu ("fabulous Jamaican shrimp salad"); "the owner makes [diners] feel welcome" and the staff is "friendly," so it's "always a pleasant experience."
